Once you have identified the PICO elements of your research question, you will combine them using Boolean operators. The operators are:
AND will go between different concepts (between the PICO elements). OR will go between synonyms or similar concepts (between all of the keywords you use for one element, for example children OR child). NOT is only used if you wish to exclude a specific term from the search. Here is an example of Boolean search syntax: ("management" OR "maintenance") AND ("child" OR "children").
