Part 1: Civil War Medicine & Recognition of Black Health Professionals

Join Alumni Medical Library and Dr. Robert Beazley and Dr. Angelique Harris from Boston University’s Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine for a panel discussion on medical practices, the socio-political climate and influence of Black healthcare professionals, and how the rich history of Boston University fits into the legacy and historical narrative of medical practices and caretaking during the Civil War era.

Part 2: Unsung Black Heroes in Medicine Series Discussion

Join us for Part 2 of the Unsung Black Heroes in Medicine series, hosted by the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine’s Diversity & Inclusion Office in collaboration with the Alumni Medical Library. This virtual discussion, featuring The Black Angels: The Untold Story of the Nurses Who Helped Cure Tuberculosis by Maria Smilios, will be led by Dr. Karin Schon on Monday, December 16, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM.

Join us for Part 3 of the Unsung Black Heroes in Medicine series, hosted by the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine’s Diversity & Inclusion Office in collaboration with the Alumni Medical Library. This virtual discussion, features Maria Smilios, author of The Black Angels: The Untold Story of the Nurses Who Helped Cure Tuberculosis. On Wednesday, February 5, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM, Maria will discuss her research and writing process for this compelling book.
